James's Submarine Dream

As a child, James Salvatore, dreamed of being on a submarine and in 1946 joined the Navy. Although he served, his tour of duty never included time on a submarine. When he was 88, living at Brookdale Williamsburg, Virginia, James’s lifetime wish to board a submarine finally came true. But not without grit and determination. To make his Wish possible, James had to transition from a walker to a cane, training hard to overcome his obstacle.

TENA was happy to partner with Wish of a Lifetime to make James’s wish come true on December 10, 2016. He toured the USS John Warner with its captain, Commander Burt Canfield, amazed to see how technology basically runs today’s submarines. Long after his Wish, Jim couldn’t stop talking about how incredible his experience was.

James showed us all how to triumph over obstacles, whatever our age.
